About the Exam

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) is an entrance examination for admission to the B.E. (Bachelor of Engineering), B.Pharm. (Bachelor of Pharmacy), and M.Sc. (Master of Science) programmes. BITSAT is conducted by the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS).

The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has recognised the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani as an Institution of Eminence. It is India’s premier institute of higher education and a deemed university.

Eligibility Criteria

For admission to any of the First Degree programmes of BITS except B.Pharm:  A candidate should have passed the 12th examination of the 10+2 system from a recognised Central or State Board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) and have adequate proficiency in English.

For admission to B.Pharm :  A candidate should have passed the 12th examination of the 10+2 system from a recognised Central or State Board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) and have adequate proficiency in English. However candidates with PCM may also apply for the Pharmacy programme.

Admissions to all the programmes are subject to the conditions given below: 

The candidate should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects (if he/she has taken Mathematics in BITSAT) or a minimum of aggregate 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects (if he/she has taken Biology in BITSAT) in the 12th examination, with at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/ Biology subjects.

Only students who are appearing for the 12th examination or who have passed the 12th Examination are eligible to appear in the BITSAT test.

BITSAT-2023 Test Pattern

Each session of BITSAT will be of 3 hours duration (without break), comprising the following 4 parts

  • Part I:Physics
  • Part II:Chemistry
  • Part III: (a) English Proficiency and  (b) Logical Reasoning
  • Part IV:Mathematics or Biology (For B.Pharm candidates)

Marking Scheme

  • Each correct answer is awarded three marks.
  • There is a negative marking of one mark for each incorrect answer.
  • There is no negative marking for unanswered questions.
